there is no room in your day for an inferior cup of coffee
For Matt Boudreau and Trevor Huggins, coffee is a ritual that helps them start and plan their day.
The journey from coffee-lovers to coffee-entrepreneurs started simply enough, with Trevor trying to perfect his roasting technique in his kitchen on a Whirley Pop Popcorn Popper. After smoking out the house more than once, he knew that he needed to accelerate his caffeine game and invested in a proper roaster and moved it to the basement to experiment with different beans and settings.
As a firefighter, Trevor would take his coffee to his fire hall, where he expected nothing less than brutally honest feedback. People, however, liked the coffee. They really liked it. And they started buying it! With growing demand, roasting moved from the basement to an approved facility in the garage and a new 6lb drum batch coffee roaster.
Trevor met Matt while selling his coffee in local markets. Together, they incorporated Five’21 Coffee Roasters in 2020. They spend time reviewing all elements of the supply chain before importing beans. They take extra time to learn where their beans are grown and how they get from the plant to their warehouse. They passionately share this knowledge with their customers, creating better informed consumers.
Today, the business operates out of a 2,500 square foot facility. They are able to roast 100 lbs per hour, allowing them to meet current demand from their growing list of wholesale and individual clients.
For Trevor and Matt, each day begins with the intention to make it better than yesterday. Small changes can lead to a big difference.
