Cosmetics and skin tonics: where icebergs and inspiration collide
Karen and Roger Dewling are co-founders of East Coast Glow, situated in picturesque Bonavista, Newfoundland and Labrador. The studio sits near the edge of the North Atlantic, where the constant parade of icebergs is a continual source of inspiration. They view their company as a creative iceberg water cosmetics studio.
In 2010, they were parents searching for a natural solution to their newborn daughter’s skin condition. Traditional soap was not an option. They decided to create their own. After many trials, they developed their signature product—Miracle Balm. Miracle Balm is made using cold-pressed olive oil infused with powerful botanicals harvested locally from wild plants. Since then, they have developed 68 products that transform raw, wild ingredients into powerful skin tonics.
The philosophy is simple: Wild. Sustainable. Pure.
Spring, summer and fall offer an abundance of icebergs, medicinal mushrooms, salt and wildflowers which are carefully harvested at their peak. In winter, the shorter days provide time to innovate and transform these wild ingredients into powerful distillates, pure essential oils, plant oils, butters and waxes.
The deep love and respect for nature will always be the driving force behind East Coast Glow. Karen and Roger believe that the earth provides the best ingredients. Their scent profiles are designed to capture the essence of Newfoundland and Labrador. In 2021 they focused on honing a new product line and changing their ecommerce site to make it more visitor friendly. Additionally, they reopened their refreshed store in April and provide interactive classes that allow visitors to forage wild ingredients and create a product.
